  • Camden's 8 & 9 Month Update

I failed at uploading an 8 month update >.< The holidays where INSANE and I never found the time to sit down and write. This update is going to be a combo of 8 & 9 months.

    Weight: 21.8 lbs

    Length: 30 inches

    Diaper size: 5

    Clothing size: 12-18 months

Health: We have been pretty lucky so far. Camden had a little cold for a couple days but thats it.

Sleep: Our once nearly perfect sleeper is deep into the “8-10 month sleep regression” part of his life. (YAAYYYY! *Sarcasm*) We don’t stick to much of a nap schedule anymore, but we pay attention to when he shows signs of getting sleepy- so in his case, red eyebrows lol. Some days he will nap twice a day for 1 1/2 hours each, and others we are lucky if we get ONE 45 minute the whole day. As a parent, you learn that these naps are KEY to getting things done so this is not a great situation.

Although his naps have been 70% crap, he still sleeps through the night peacefully and wakes up around his usual time, 6:30-7:30.

    Diet:

Over the last 2 months, Camden has been introduced to a ton of different foods. He’s a huge fan of scrambled eggs, apples, bananas, pears, chicken, potatoes, squash and pasta. As you know we had wanted to practice baby led weaning but sometimes, well… most of the time, things rarely go according to plan with a baby. I ended up making him homemade purees to introduce him to the tastes of different foods. Then, we started giving him puffs and yogurt drops to learn how to use his pinchers to pick up pieces of food and put them in his mouth. He also learned how to manipulate pieces of food in his mouth and swallow. Now, Camden can feed himself and loves it! He prefers to do things himself!

Loves: I have a weird kid. He is OBSESSED with The Gilmore Girl’s theme song. He will literally stop what he is doing to listen to it. If he is mid-meltdown and hears it, he will stop crying instantly. Its too funny!

He enjoys being around people. He loves to show off his new skills and show how he can clap.

He loves eating which is not a surprise since he’s a Moy! He loves puzzles, his lightsabers, his play table, anything that squeaks, mommy and daddy’s phones (so we have to sanitize them every day), Emily and her fluffy tail, books, vintage cartoons, flowers, being outside, swings and playing!

    Dislikes:

The kid HATES tuna. Like so much he rubbed it all over his hair so he didn’t have to put it in his mouth. So gross.

He gets super upset when we aren’t in the same room. He will play and ignore us but as soon as we leave he loses it! I guess he just loves us soooo much! :p

This is really weird but he gets crazy if his legs are covered. Every morning I bring him into bed with me to snuggle and for him to have his first bottle- I plop him next to me with all the pillows and bundle him up under the covers with me. He gets so pissed and kicks off the covers EVEN if its cold! Its definitely a Moy thing because Phil can’t stand his legs being hot.

    Milestones:

Over the last 2 months, he has hit so many milestones which makes me one proud mama! With all these milestones came a great deal of disrupted sleep and crankiness but it was so worth it! Camden now has 4 teeth! Sometimes I miss that gummy smile but I can’t tell you how much I love his new little chiclet smile!

He can now crawl like a pro, go from crawling to sitting upright, pull himself up (sometimes with his teeth which is weird), and walk around by hold on to the edges of furniture. I can’t believe how fast he became mobile and as exhausting as it is to chase after him constantly, I love that he can go from point A to point B all by himself. I can direct him to follow me which saves my back tremendously.

I don’t know if this is considered a milestone but he has become so independent! He can play for HOURS by himself. I can tell he already has a wild imagination!

Speech: Camden babbles non-stop! I think he legit thinks he’s having conversations with us. I babble back sometimes to amuse him. He can say da-da, ma-ma and ba-ba (for bottle). Once his vocabulary is more developed, I know he is going to be a little chatter box like his mama!

    Baby Gear Love:

Happy Baby Organics Puffs - These have been great for learning how to pick up pieces of food, chew and swallow. Also, these are my secret weapon for getting Camden to sit happy in shopping carts and car rides.

Happy Baby Organics Yogis-  Like the puffs these are great for learning how to pick up pieces of food, chew and swallow. These have more sugar so we do not give Camden as many.

Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Table- Camden loves this! Its super interactive and diverse. There is a learning option, singing option and even a learn Spanish option. It gets him dancing and learning the concept of pushing buttons to make sounds.

Enjoying the warm winter we have been having!

    Swing Swin with Bunny!

One of our favrite things to do is go grocery shopping together. He usually behaves better than all the other shoppers which makes me laugh... every time!

Took Camden to the Boat Parade of Lights in Old Town. Out friend took this lovely photo of us. Daddy had to work but we missed him!

    Mall Santa lol

  • The Birth of Camden Mitchell Moy

April 8th 2015. I noticed signs of "early labor" that morning. My mucus plug fell out! Yes, "mucus plug" is literally the grossest term ever, but it is what it is. For anyone who does't know what a mucus plug is (aka bloody show), its basically a plug created by your body to block anything from entering or exiting your cervix during pregnancy. It falls out when your cervix starts to widen. Whatever you do, DO NOT GOOGLE IT!!

Once the mucus plug falls out, it can take anywhere from a few hours to a couple of weeks for labor to pick up. I was lucky and did not have to wait long. At around 10:30 that evening, Phil and I were watching Parks and Recreation and I felt a "pop" in my uterus. It didn't hurt but it felt super awkward. I wobbled to the bathroom and out it came…. NOPE! not the baby :p, but a gush of water. My water had broke and we immediately called the hospital to let them know Baby C was ready! We showered, cleaned up the house, fed Emily and packed the car! Within the hour I started having mild contractions.

We arrived at the hospital around 11:30pm and headed straight to the evaluation room to make sure I was "actually in labor". I obviously was, but I guess it was mediatory that they test my amniotic fluid to make sure it was actually amnionic fluid. Indeed it was and as my contractions began to SUCK, we were taken to our labor and delivery suite. The room was wonderful! So comfy and absolutely huge! We immediately plugged in an iHome and cranked yoga music to keep the mood chill. By 4:30 in the morning, I was about 3 centimeters dilated. I couldn't deal with the contractions anymore so I demanded an epidural. I've had a lot of people ask me  how bad the epidural was but in all honesty, it barely hurt at all and I think that is mainly because the contraction were so god awful. For those of you who are scared of the epidural, don't be! If its something you want, go for it!

About 20 minutes later, I was totally numb from the waist down. I couldn't feel my contractions which RULED but that also meant my legs didn't work which was weird. I had the most amazing sleep of my life that night! While I slept, my contractions became closer together and my cervix dilated more and more, but not fast enough. One of the drawbacks to getting an epidural is that it can slow down the labor process. I was given pitocin to get it back on track. By 2 pm I was fully dilated. My midwife, Jenna had me sit straight up in my bed to allow the baby to "drop" as much as possible, which can make pushing easier and delivery quicker. I was scheduled to begin pushing at 3:30pm. As I waited, I munched on ice chips, texted family and friends and took selfies with my selfie stick. By now, my epidural began to wear off a bit, and I was feeing contractions. This was a good thing as I would be able to feel the pressure to push.

At 3:20pm I was coached by a nurse on pushing.  As we did a couple of practice pushes, baby C's head was visible so she had me stop. 3 women in the labor and delivery ward (including myself) where all in the exact same stages of labor so my poor midwife was running around between the 3 of us trying to delver each baby in a timely manner. When it was our time to push, she had offered to bring in a mirror so I could watch our progress. Now, this was NOT in my birth plan but then again we did not use my birth plan once as a reference during the entire labor/delivery. I was more comfortable just winging it and doing whatever was best for my baby and myself. I will say, using the mirror was the best decision! To watch the process was amazing and not as scary as I thought it would be.

With a nurse on one leg, Phil on the other and Jenna in the middle, it was time! Surprisingly, I was not nervous or scared, just overwhelmed with excitement and ready to meet this little ninja that had been living inside of me for the last 10 months. Phil was a HUUUUGE help the entire time I pushed. He and the nurse each held my feet so I could push off of them and he was giving me continuous cheers and encouragement. I absolutely loved that he was able to be involved in the actual delivery of our baby!

After about 15 minutes of pushing, baby C's heart rate began to drop so I was put on oxygen which helped bring his heart rate back up. Even at this point I was not concerned or scared. I knew my little guy was OK and trying his hardest to meet us. At this point the top of his head was out and just a few minutes later I was instructed by Jenna to laugh. So I did. This was my final "push" which would bring my little Camden into the world. I immediately reached down and pulled him up to my chest. Still attached to his umbilical chord and wet, we locked eyes. I hugged him, kissed him and smelled him. This exact moment would forever change me as a person and give my life a deeper meaning.

April 9th, 2015 at 3:59pm, I was blessed with a perfectly healthy baby boy who had given me the best pregnancy and most amazing labor and delivery. It was such an empowering experience. I encourage all women to try their hardest to enjoy the entire journey! Each birth story is different but just as special. The ability to give life is incredible and a true miracle.

Our Snapchat we sent out to family and friends while we jetted to the hospital!

  • 25-27 Week Pregnancy Update Plus Maternity Photos and Sneak Peak at My DIY Nursery Mobile

The last few weeks have been super busy with planning for the New Year, designing my 2014 book and the millions of DIY projects I get myself into because of my nesting addiction, I am updating you all on weeks 25, 26 and 27! >.< sorry!

    How far along? 27 weeks!

Total weight gain/measurements: 122 lbs, I am supposed to gain about a pound a week from now on!

Maternity clothes: Can I just live in pajamas?

Stretch marks? Not yet! I have been using sweet almond oil twice a day and I love how smooth and healthy my bump has been... minus the oily hands afterwards ;)

Sleep: A few nights of insomnia, a few nights of restless legs and a few nights of being sick with a cold…. so sleep the past 3 weeks has been GREAT! (sike) But that is OK, I suppose I am preparing myself for many sleepless nights.

Best moment this week:  Since I am combining the last 3 weeks there are a few "best moments".

Crafting with my friends and throwing a killer NYE party!

Phil and I had a mini maternity photo session with our good buddy, Ross! Emily totally took over the shoot, but we still ended up with some adorable photos. (See below)

Baby Shower planning!!! I have a wonderful group of girlfriends and my mother in law helping out and I couldn't be more excited or grateful! This party is going to be so much fun! We have a LOT to do before March 7th!

Entering into the third trimester!!!! YAAY!!!! Getting close!

Miss anything? I have had a few moments of missing my pre-pregnancy body. Its hard to go from being so small to gaining over 20 pounds, not fitting into anything and having your skin stretch. BUT these little moments quickly go away when I feel him kick or when I think about how much I love him and  how I want to be the best parent I can be for him.

Movement: He's a ninja! Kicking away at mommy's ribs, organs and bladder. This kid is def going to be enrolled in Muay Thai!

Food cravings: Milkshakes and Banh Mi sammiches

Anything making you queasy or sick? Nothing new. Still can't stand Old Bay or popcorn (barf!!)

Gender: IT'S A BOY!!!!!!! My Moy Boy <3

Symptoms: Now that I am into my third trimester, I am starting to feel a couple first trimester symptoms again. Forever sleepy, ouchy boobs and little episodes of feeling nauseous. Its definitely not as bad as the first trimester, but what they say is true. The second trimester is a breeze and by far the most "normal" feeling. I feel VERY pregnant now.

I also have had a few reeeeallly scary moments where I was out in public, usually alone… my body starts to sweat and I am cold. I feel like I am running out of breath and I get dizzy. It feels like a faint it about to come on and I start to freak out. Usually if I do not do something about it, I will end up on the floor, which is never a good thing, especially when you are pregnant. Sitting down with THE coldest water you could imagine, cool air,  taking heavy clothes (jacket, sweater, shoes) off and breathing will usually calm me down. But it takes a good 15 minutes to be able to function again.

I've been anemic my whole life so this feeling isn't exactly new to me, but its not something I face often. I have been taking iron supplements every day, but I have a feeling my dosage is going to change after my next blood test, which is tomorrow, so we will see!

Belly button in or out? In!

Wedding rings on or off? On!

Happy or moody most of the time: Very happy, happy, emotional, and moments of crazy here and there.

Looking forward to: The baby shower!!!

We have baby registries at Target and Amazon! (for those of you who have asked)

  • 19 Week Pregnancy Update Plus a Little Bit About Our 20 Week Appointment!

    How far along? 19 weeks!

Total weight gain/measurements: Now at 111 lbs! Woohoo!!

Maternity clothes: I am at that point where my old clothes just don't fit. I went to a lovely event at the National Cathedral with some gal pals this passed Monday and was faced with the task of dressing up without a single "maternity" dress or skirt. Its full on winter here in Washington DC, so it also had to be warm! After turning my closet upside down I found a black high waisted midi skirt that I had to pull up under my boobs in order to zip.  I paired that with a cropped black sweater (with a faux leather peter pan collar) that couldn't be tucked in to my skirt so ended up tucking it under my bra and folding it over so skin didn't show. I guess it worked but it was a little uncomfortable. I am a petite person, especially up top so finding something that is not gigantic (that not basic long-sleeved shirts) is going to be hard.

    Stretch marks? No.

Sleep: Good nights and bad… VERY bad nights.  My legs have been crazy restless recently! NO bueno! Yesterday we found out the gender of our baby, I was so excited I didn't sleep a wink and I think baby was excited too because it was kicking all night long. I am also getting a cold so breathing was an issue. -_-

Best moment this week:  Finding out that we are having a …….!!!! Can't tell until Thanksgiving! But OMG we are so happy and so madly in love with this child! We had a whole 45 minutes to look at our baby so the sonographer could measure all the baby's parts. Everything was perfect! <3

Miss anything? I was a little sore this week and the cold weather is a little bummy so I am missing a hot tub right about now! Oh how amazing would that be!!!! *dreaming*

Movement: Someone is doing karate in my tummy! Lots of kicks!

Food cravings: Back to watermelon and ice water of course!

Anything making you queasy or sick? Nothing new. Still can't stand Old Bay or popcorn (barf!!)

Gender: ITS A …….! (Will let everyone know on Thanksgiving!)

Symptoms: My legs are so restless its not even funny! I can't stretch enough!

Belly button in or out? In!

Wedding rings on or off? On!

Happy or moody most of the time: Happy and excited all week with the exception of one moody day where I just wanted to sleep and listen to Lana Del Rey!

Looking forward to: Telling our family the sex of our baby right before Thanksgiving dinner (some via phone, FaceTime or text) I am also sending a little reveal box to my grandmother and brother in Florida to open via FaceTime so we can see their reactions. I will post photos of our reveal next week!

Happy Thanksgiving to you all! I have so much to be thankful for! We were blessed in SO many ways this year!

Right after finding out the sex! SO HAPPY AND EXCITED!!

  • Lives are changing!

We are so excited to finally announce our big news! Phil and I are having a baby! Our dream has come true and come April we will be parents! We couldn't be more excited to expand our little family of 3 (including Emily) to 4!

NYC photographer and good friend, Ross Thompson photographed these lovely announcement photos for us. (Location: Old Town, Va.) Check out his work here! Thanks Ross!!

Almost 8 years ago, shortly after Phil and I met, we came across the cutest little baby Vans shoes! I don't even know why, but we bought them. They traveled with us to 7 different homes and 4 different states. Who knew they would actually be apart of our announcement photos so many years later!? Clearly we will be a Vans wearing family. LOL.
