  • Camden's 7 Month Update

    Weight: 20.8 lbs

    Length: 30 inches

    Diaper size: 4

    Clothing size: 9 - 12 months

    Health: Healthy boy

Sleep: We adjusted Camden’s sleep schedule a bit, by moving his nap time up by an hour. This is his sleep schedule at the moment

    6:30-7am Wake up

    9:30-11:30 1st Nap

    1:30-3:30 2nd Nap

    5:30 (optional 30-45 min Nap)

    7:00 Bed time

He was having issues getting stuck on his belly during the night and would get fussy and wake himself up. I let him figure it out on his own and within a week he learned how to sleep on his side and roll over on his back. He has a liking to the top corners of the crib. I don’t even know… the kid is an odd one.

There were a few incidences this month where he was super clingy, he could not stand being away from us, so when it came time to sleep he would flat out protest.

We also started nap training him in his crib this month. He had been napping in his swing since he was a few weeks old. I was never quite comfortable with it, but it was the only thing that helped him to sleep comfortably for hours at a time. The first few days of nap training were a little tricky but with consistency and not giving into his cries, he learned to nap for 1.5-2 hours at a time. YAY for being persistent!

    Diet:

It was my goal to let Camden lead himself with eating solids but he never seemed quite ready.  I was eager for him to explore solids and it was obvious he was interested and wanted them. I decided to try and help him out and fed him myself. Yea… I know it goes against true “baby led weaning” but we do whatever works for our own situations. He loves being spoon-fed so much he tries to do it himself. With time he has been getting the hang of picking up pieces of food on his highchair tray with his pinches and putting them in his mouth. He likes everything we have given him, which are waffles, sweet potato (puree form only), bananas and apple sauce.

I have been making my own baby food which is a lot of fun! I use the BabyCook Pro which is AMAZING! It’s super easy and is an all in one type of deal.

Loves: This month, Camden has shown a lot of interest in his toys. He has obvious favorites and loves them so much he will dig through his entire toy box to find them, even if they are at the very bottom. Its so cute and really rad to see him have a preference. He also LOVES music. I mean, he was born with music playing and it hasn’t stopped since so I am not surprised. If he is having one of those days, daddy usually will pull out his guitar and play him some of his favorites- Alkaline Trio (Love, Love, Kiss, Kiss), Johnny Cash (Ring of Fire), Taking Back Sunday (Q Without the E).

He also loves ice cubes, stroller walks, leaves, other babies, being held by anyone, getting his hair brushed, baths, rolling over when we try and change his poop diapers -_- eating dinner at the table with mom and dad, Emily, playing, being outside, grandma and grandpa, my phone, army crawling, banging his toys and sleep!

Dislikes: As mentioned above, he loves sleeping, but sometimes putting him down results in a total meltdown. As soon as his body hits the crib mattress he loses it. He can’t stand silence, but then again neither can I so I totally get it.

Milestones: Camden has been working hard on crawling. He can army crawl and is trying to figure out what to do after he makes it on all fours. He will rock back and forth and then give up. I have a feeling this next month will be the month he figures out whats next. Should be fun…. meaning I will have to get a baby jail.

Camden can roll over front to back and back to front now, which make it easier for him to sleep. Thank goodness!

We have teeth!! This teething journey has been rough for our little dude. He has been in a lot of pain and discomfort so we were SO relieved when we finally saw his two bottom front teeth cutting through.

We have successfully transitioned from swing napping to crib napping! WOOHOO!!

Camden grew out of his infant car seat. I though we would have a few more months but nope! We have a giant baby on our hands so he now has a great new carseat with plenty of room to grow!

Speech: He can only “da-da” consistently but now that he has a couple teeth he is figuring out all of the new sounds he can make. Recently he has been making the “s” sound a lot.

    Baby Gear Love:

Huggies Overnight Diapers (we were having leaking issues and started to double up his Earth’s Best diapers, but that seemed to be a huge waste. These are SO much better and work like a charm!)

Evenflo Symphoney LX Convertible Carseat (Camden loves it! Its so big and comfy. If you choose this carseat, make sure it will fit in your car prior to buying! It barely fit in our Subaru Forester.)

Intelex Cozy Therapy Plush, Hedgehog (great for chilly days! Pop him in the microwave for a minute or two and enjoy the warmth for up to 3 hours.)

    Munchkin Powdered Formula Dispenser

3 in 1 Calming Shampoo, Bubble Bath and Wash

    BabyCook Pro

  • Falling for Fall: Halloween & Family Outings

The best season of the entire year always feels like the shortest. Virginia is absolutely GORGEOUS this time of year!  We had to make the most of every single beautiful day!

Went to Nalls Produce to pick out our pumpkins this year! They had all sorts of cute Halloween displays and activities for kids. Of course, Cam is too young to run around and play, but he loved seeing the farm pig, chickens, pumpkins and other kids. We had SOO much fun! Oh, I should also mention it was 80 degrees on this day. So weird!

A sweet stranger offered to take a quick fam photo of us <3

Camden is pretty stoked on leaves. He loves to grab them and crunch them in his hands.  Beanie- Amazon | Flannel Shirt- Old Navy | Therman- Carters | Pants- Zara | Boots- Dr. Martens

Leela, Fry and Nibbler from Futurama.  I had SO much fun DIY-ing these costumes. It was surprisingly easy! For Leela, I bought a sheet of plastic needlepoint paper and drew/cut out her cyclops eye. Then, used black elastic to create the band. For the gauntlet, I used foam sheets. I already had black pants and a white tank top. My costume cost $3! Fry was super easy as well! Orange wash-out hair dye which I found for $2 at Target, red dress-shirt and jeans from Good Will, cost $10, Phil already had a white t-shirt and black Vans shoes. Nibbler was a little more work, but it was still quite cheap! I had a plain black beanie and used felt to create Nibbler's face. For his middle eye, I used a couple black pipe cleaners that poked out the top center and hot glued a foam ball to it. I sewed the pipe cleaner into the hat to secure it. For the red cape, I bought the cheapest red fabric I could find from Handcock Fabric ($2). Camden already had black pants, and a black hoodie. I used a piece of tan felt to make Nibbler's belly.

Took our Futurama costumes to the Del Ray Halloween Costume Parade. So many wonderful costumes, we were so happy to be apart of it.

Carved a cat pumpkin, of course! Tip to keeping your pumpkin last longer: mixture of equal parts water and bleach. Spray the exposed pumpkin flesh.

And because you can't just have one costume for your first Halloween AND this is the year of Star Wars... Camden was Yoda on actual Halloween. I found the crochet beanie on Etsy, the mini lightsaber from Target dollar deals section, and I made his little tan robe. He already had brown leggings.

We walked around town for a bit so Camden could show off his rad Yoda costume.

My Halloween make up this year. Pop art gal <3 We sat outside, listed to the MIsfits, handed out candy and had a pizza and wine party. It was the best Halloween ever!

First pumpkin pie of the year and a test run for Thanksgiving!

  • Camden's 6 Month Update | Happy Half Birthday

    Weight: 20 lbs

    Length: 29.5 inches

    Diaper size: 4

    Clothing size: 9 - 12 months

    Health: Healthy and happy!

Sleep: Our little guy is still a super sleeper but I have noticed a few hiccups in his sleep schedule that coincide with meeting milestones in his development. Camden has been working hard on rolling over and sitting up and both developmental peeks have resulted in fussy nights. They only last for a few nights, thank goodness! The worst was just a few nights ago. Camden started rolling over from back to tummy in his crib, and he would get stuck. He hadn’t figured out how flip over on his back, and got crazy frustrated. A few times, I would go into his nursery and help him (after waiting about 10 minutes for him to try and nail it himself), but eventually he found comfort in sleeping on his belly.

Diet: We started introducing Camden to a few solids foods this month. He has been showing interest in what we are eating so we thought we would give him the chance to explore. We have given him sweet potato and banana… both of which ended up everywhere except for in his mouth. I love watching him play with his food and figuring out what he is supposed to do with it. A few times, small pieces found their way to his mouth but he was NOT having it and spit them out. I think he is just nosey about what we are eating and wants to be apart of it, but not quite ready.

Loves: Being held, being social, parks, coffee dates, walks, being tickled, being read to, bath time, Emily (♥), grandma and grandpa, sucking his thumb, Alkaline Trio (got that from Phil), girls (not thrilled, but whatever), other babies, nap time.

Dislikes: The kid HATES being alone. I mean, I get it, Mom and Dad are pretty cool but he definitely has separation anxiety. So, I am working on teaching him that being independent is ok, and Mom and Dad are always near by.

Milestones: Camden has hit so many milestones this month. He can roll over, he can sit up on his own and he has started saying “da-da”.

He is such a wiggle worm and we literally can’t take our eyes off him even for a minute, he will end up on the other side of the room. I think it may be time to get a baby jail.. I mean, play yard for him. :p

Speech: If he is not sleeping or eating, he is talking. He talks to his hands, to his feet, to his toys, to Emily, to Mommy and Daddy. He is just full of stories. He has been saying “da-da” a lot lately which is SOOOOOOO cute!!!!!! He has the sweetest little voice, I can’t get enough of it.

  • Lily Jade: A Diaper Bag in Disguise and Special Announcement

The amount of stuff that comes along with you and baby on even the smallest of outings is ungodly! But its all necessary..what if he is hungry? I need extra bottles, formula and water. What if he has a blow out? I need enough diapers, wipes and change of clothes! What if he is cold? I need a hoodie and his favorite blanket. What if he doesn’t want to play with Daisy (currently, his favorite toy)? I need to bring a back up. What if it gets super sunny? I need his sun hat and sun screen. The list goes on and by the time you have everything stuffed into your diaper bag, its busting at the seams! Oh, and don’t even bother trying to fish anything out because its impossible, unless you’re lucky enough to find what you need at the top. My life as a mom was about to change.

When Lily Jade contacted me about reviewing one of their diaper bags, I was ecstatic! Of course, I had read and seen Lily Jade bags in magazines, on several mommy blogs and “must have lists”, so I knew I would absolutely adore this bag… this amazing diaper bag in disguise.

You’d never know this beautiful designer bag was stuffed full of blow out essentials and toys for days! The best part is, the chaos that IS a diaper bag is actually capable of being completely organized! One of my absolute favorite features is the removable “Baby Bag” organizer that comes with every Lily Jade bag. I can compartmentalize changing necessities, food, toys and have a separate section for my own things! There are two magnetic snaps that keeps the organizer in place, which also allows it to transform from diaper bag mode to “Mom is going out baby free” mode.

I have the “Madeline” in black which can be worn 3 different ways. Across the chest, on the shoulder and as a backpack! My son, Camden is in that wiggly stage and having our bag strapped to my back and totally out of the way, makes everything SO much easier!

This bag is just wonderful and has changed the way Camden and I go out. Have I convinced you to look into getting your very own Lily Jade diaper bag? I hope so because I have some exciting news!

Who doesn’t love a good giveaway!? I have teamed up with Lily Jade and we are giving away a diaper bag to one lucky Instagram follower. Keep an eye out for my official announcement which will be posted next week on my Instagram!

  • 16 Week Pregnancy Update, Bump Photos and Baby Moccasins from Wild Darlings

    How far along? 16 weeks!

Total weight gain/measurements: Weighed in at 105 this week. 6 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight. My baby bump is growing pretty fast now! Thank goodness! I no longer look like I just ate too much cake!

Maternity clothes: I can still get away with wearing my yoga pants, but they are starting to get a little uncomfortable. They stop mid-belly which causes pressure when I sit, so I don't think they will be in my wardrobe for much longer. I did however find the most comfortable "maternity" leggings ever from Motherhood! So far I have 2 pair, one in gray which goes under the belly, and the other in black which goes over. Both I will be able to wear post pregnancy! I will definitely need to get more!

I also have been wearing the BEST undies! They aren't maternity specific either! They are the "No Show" panty from Victoria's Secret! No harsh band, just simple, comfy and easy to grown in.

    Stretch marks? No.

Sleep: Most nights are ok and I sleep pretty sound throughout the night. There have been a few nights where I just can't find a position I like and my pregnancy pillow becomes a life saver!

Best moment this week: Finally felt baby flutters! At first, it was hard to tell if it was gas or baby. >.<

    Miss anything? Spicy tuna rolls!

    Movement: Flutters!

Food cravings: All of the sweets! Plus, raw green peppers and I literally CAN'T drink enough ice water! Omg, just thinking about it makes me happy!

Anything making you queasy or sick? My prenatal gummy vitamins are hard to chew and swallow sometimes. Old Bay and popcorn became my enemy during the first trimester, so even just thinking about them, make me want to throw up. I hope that changes!! Being a DC girl, I HAVE to have my Old Bay!

Gender: Will find out in the next few weeks! (i hope)

Symptoms: Now that I am well into my second trimester, I feel a bit normal! I am no longer constantly nauseous or fighting to keep my eyes open, which is GREAT! But, a few new symptoms have developed that I am less than fond of. I get winded really easily. Sometimes a little light headed and I have to lay down for a minute. It usually passes after a few minutes but it can be a little scary. I've gotten heartburn a couple of times. Nothing crippling, and a ginger drop usually cures that mess right away.

Belly button in or out? In!

Wedding rings on or off? On!

Happy or moody most of the time: Usually I am really good at controlling my moods, but I have surrendered and let my pregnancy hormones do their "thing". Most of the time I am super happy, but there have been a few days where my temper will get the best of me, or I will get super sad and cry at just about anything. The other day I found a praying mantis outside my house, I kept crying because his eyes were so far apart. NOT normal! Thank goodness my husband still loves me!

Looking forward to: Apple picking this weekend! Apples pies and homemade apple butter here I come!

    13 Weeks!

    15 Weeks!

From cake belly to looking pregnant! YAY! :D

Wild Darlings sent baby the cutest pair of moccasins! Hand made and just lovely! Thanks!

  • Spooky Halloween Bark

Halloween Bark is the perfect treat to bring to a Halloween party or to give to your friends/family as gifts!

    You will need:

12-14 orange and black sandwich cookies, broken up into large chunks
1 cup pretzels, broken into pieces
1 pound almond bark or white chocolate melts
    1 1/2 cups candy corn
    20-30 candy eyeballs
1-2 tablespoons of a variety of Halloween food sprinkles

    Directions:

    1.  Melt almond bark according to package. I slowly melted mine in a sauce pan over a low heat, until smooth and shiny. Make sure to stir frequently to prevent burning.

     2. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the on a parchament paper-ed cookie sheet, spreading with spatula to coat evenly.

    3. Sprinkle pretzels, cookies, candy corn, candy eyeballs and food sprinkles over the chocolate while it is still wet.  Place cookie tray into refrigerator until set and firm.

    4. Once solid, break apart and enjoy!

    HAPPY HALLOWEEN! <3

  • Oatmeal Cream Pies

    You will need:

    • 1 cup butter, softened
    • 3/4 cup brown sugar
    • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
    • 2 eggs
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla
    • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 2 cups old-fashioned, uncooked Quaker Oats

    Filling:

    • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
    • 2 Tablespoons heavy cream 0r milk
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla
    • 3 cups powdered sugar

Directions: For cookies: Preheat oven to 350° F. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper. Set aside.

Beat together butter and both sugars until creamy. Add in eggs and vanilla. Beat until just combined. Add flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. Mix until just combined. Stir in the oats.

Drop by rounded tablespoons onto the prepared baking sheets. Make sure to space apart at least 2 inches. (I only put 8 cookies per sheet) Bake for 10 to 11 minutes only. Don’t over bake! Cool 5 minutes on cookie sheet, then transfer to a wire rack.

For filling: Beat the cream cheese with an electric hand-mixer until creamy. Add the heavy cream and vanilla. Slowly add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, until frosting is creamy and lump-free.

To assemble pies: Place filling in a large zip-lock bag, and snip one corner off. Pipe a circle of 2 Tablespoons of filling onto the bottom of one cookie. Top with another cookie. Gently squeeze to allow filling to come to the edges. Repeat with remaining cookies and frosting.

    Makes 16 pies.

  • Apple Cider Donut Muffins | A Lovely Fall Treat

    Apple cider donut muffins
    2 cups apple cider
    3 1/4 cups whole-wheat pastry flour
    1 tablespoon baking powder
    3/4 teaspoon coarse salt
    1/4 teaspoon baking soda
    2 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
    1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    1 cup unsweetened applesauce
    1/3 cup reduced-fat buttermilk
    6 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
    1 cup sugar
    2 large eggs

    Directions
    1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees . In a small saucepan, bring cider to a rapid simmer over medium heat. Simmer until reduced to 1/2 cup, about 25 minutes. Set aside to cool. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda, 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon and nutmeg. In a small bowl, combine applesauce and buttermilk.

    2. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream butter and 2/3 cup sugar until pale and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time and beat until incorporated, scraping down bowl between each addition. Add flour mixture, alternating with applesauce mixture, in three batches. Fold in 1/4 cup reduced apple cider.

    3. Fill each cup of a nonstick muffin tin and bake until puffed and set, 25 to 30 minutes, rotating pan halfway through. Cool pan on a wire rack for 10 minutes. Working one at a time, remove muffins from pan and lightly brush all over with remaining reduced cider. Let cool completely on wire rack. Store in an airtight container at room temperature up to 3 days (refrigerate or freeze leftovers after that). Combine remaining cinnamon and sugar in a small airtight container.

    4. To serve, microwave muffin in 15-second increments until warm, then toss it in cinnamon-sugar mixture.
